Glastonbury festival recording studio

Music producer Joe Leach is designing and building a soundproof recording studio in a custom built low-impact straw bale building in the grounds of this year’s event, in what is believed to be a first for Glastonbury, offering attending musicians the opportunity to record with a professional producer.

Co-production & recording of Victoria Klewin & The True Tones

Rooflight Production will be at J&J studio this weekend recording Victoria Klewin & The True Tones’ debut EP. We’ll be capturing live takes of five original songs penned by Victoria, with a soulful jazz/blues sound and adding piano and brass overdubs. Everyone concerned is very much looking forward to working in this fantastic Bristol studio for the first time!

An introduction to Professional recording: one day course

Do you sing or play an instrument? Would you like to learn how to record your music in the relaxed and supportive company of other musicians? Would you like to know more about how the music of your favourite artists is captured and put together in the studio?

If so, then this one day course will give you an exciting hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of studio recording, at Soundworks, Bristol’s beautiful centre for creativity and wellbeing, on Sunday 6th March 09:00-17:30.

A great recording starts with a great performance, so prior to the course, attendees will be put in touch with each other and asked to collectively choose a song, rehearse their individual parts and come to the course ready to make their contribution to recording the song. To demonstrate how the individual parts of a song slot together, each instrument or vocal part will be recorded separately or ‘overdubbed’.

Topics covered on the day will include the use of microphones, room acoustics, recording technology and audio editing.
All this for just £20 per person! There is space on the course for 5-7 musicians (multi-instrumentalists welcome!) to form a band on the day, including:

Lead vocals
Backing vocals
Drums / percussion
Keyboards
Bass guitar / double bass
Acoustic / electric guitar
Cello / violin
…or other interesting instruments!
